The Virginia Division started off the 2008 season at
Lake Gaston on October 20, 2007. Our next event is again at Gaston on
the 16th of March. The Virginia BWS Division schedule is set to start
at Lake Gaston on March 15th, so this gives everyone the opportunity to fish
both events.
I just got home from three weeks of working the ABA
National events. First was the AFT championship at Lessburg, Florida's
Harris Chain. The tournament went well and ABA crowned a very
deserving champion, Thomas Jones. We also inducted into the ABA Hall
of Fame long time member Dale Hart. I cannot think of anyone deserving
the honor more than Dale. A big congratulations goes out to him.
Then came the Bassmaster Weekend Series Championship
at Clark's Hill Reservoir. It was a shootout all the way to the end,
where three members of the Virginia Division finished in the top three
places, bringing home a lot of money. The winner was Jeff Coble.
Many of you know Jeff as the area Triton Sales Representative. Jeff
earned $205,000 in prize and sponsor bonus money as well as a slot in this
year's Bassmaster Classic. In second place was William Kemp from
Scotland Neck, NC and third was Mike Hicks of Goochland, Virginia.
Congratulations to all three of you for a very strong finish. The
series is getting rather serious about prize money and this next year anyone
that wins an event could win as much as $13,000 for a one day event.
BUT, you need to have a Triton boat with Mercury and MotorGuide motors to
qualify for top dollars, so ya'll need to call Richard at our local sponsor
Pop's Marine and explore getting into a Triton.
Special thanks to all of our local sponsors Carolina
Lunker Sauce, Holley Grove Marina, Pop's Marine,
www.bassnedge.com, Sanderson Marine,
The Tow-Light, JB Custom Rods, Propeller Dynamics of Richmond and Hooker
Bait and Tackle.
